The D.F. Burns Apartment Modernization project consisted of the Exterior Renovations and Conversion of 29 Studio Units into One bedroom Apartments at an occupied 198 unit federally assisted elderly development owned by the Cambridge Housing Authority. The work included the installation of new aluminum windows, sliding doors, entrances and curtain wall, new steel doors, concrete repairs, façade cleaning, joint sealants, balcony coating and railings. The studio apartment conversions included the demotion and reconstruction of new spaces, new kitchens, interior doors, resilient flooring and carpet along with associated plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, and electrical upgrades. The entire building also received a new fire alarm system.
